Narrow Your Choices to Make Your Decision
After all of your preparation, how do you decide where you are going to school? After you receive notice of your admission or rejection, you can begin the next step: choosing the college you will attend.
Prioritize
- Which school matches most of your qualifications?
- Does the school offer enough financial aid?
Compare
- Which school would be the best option for you?
- Look at ALL of your qualifications if you have a close match.
Think
Get advice from peers, parents, advisors, guidance counselors, and current students.
Be Patient
- The process of choosing your college should not be rushed.
- Make sure that this decision is what you want and need for a rewarding educational experience.
Early Decision or Early Action
After you choose your top colleges, you might have the option of early decision or early action.
| Early Decision |
Early Action |
Benefits
Knowing early about your status in the top school of your choice.
Drawbacks
You are bound to attend this school if you are accepted early. |
Benefits
You can also learn about your fate early, but this plan is not binding compared to the early decision plan.
Drawbacks
Along with early decision, early action usually requires a deposit in advance. |
|
Tips for using Early Decision or Early Action
- Use these plans if you are absolutely sure of your choice.
- If you plan to compare other schools with the offer of your early decision, this is not the best method.
- Talk with your advisor before making your final decision.
